Dr Terkula Suswam, elder brother of former Benue State governor Gabriel Suswam has been killed by unknown gunmen, the police have confirmed.
An aide simply identified as Mr Solomon was also killed in the attack which occurred on Tuesday evening.
Former Governor Suswam currently represents Benue North-East senatorial district at the National Assembly.
Dr. Suswam’s death was confirmed in a statement signed by Benue police spokesperson Catherine Anene on Wednesday in Makurdi.
“At about 19:30hrs information was received that while Dr Terkura Suswam and his aide, Mr Solomon, sat opposite his house at Elohim Plaza, Anyiin to supervise repairs at the said plaza, yet-to-be identified gunmen, who drove in a Toyota Camry vehicle, attacked and shot him and his aide.
“A team of police officers on patrol in the area rushed to the scene and conveyed the victims to NKST Anyiin Hospital where they were eventually confirmed dead.
“Their corpses have been deposited at the hospital for autopsy,” the statement said.
While commiserating with family members and friends of the deceased, DCP Anene disclosed that investigation was ongoing to ensure that the killers are apprehended and justice is served.
Meanwhile, Governor Samuel Ortom has vowed to ensure that Dr. Suswam’s killers are arrested and brought to book.
In a statement issued by his chief press secretary Terver Akase on Wednesday, Ortom said “the killers of Chief Terkura Suswam, elder brother to the senator representing Benue North-East Senator Gabriel Suswam must be apprehended and brought to justice.”
Dr Suswam was the owner of Ashiwaves FM, Ashi Rice and Ashi Polytechnic all located in Benue State.
