An Osogbo Chief Magistrates’ Court on Monday remanded eight men, who allegedly robbed people of their phones and motorcycles at gunpoint, in Ilesa Prisons.
The accused are Ogunosun Timieyin, 18; Adeleke Shina, 21; Olawopo Daramola, 20; Abidoye Semiu, 20; and Nkemko Steven, 23.
Others are Olayiwola Gbolahan, 29; Azeez Lawal, 30; and Owonifari Samson, 24.
The Magistrate, Mrs Fatimoh Sodamade, who gave the ruling, said the the men should be kept behind the bars pending advice from the State Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP).
Police Prosecutor Mustapha Tajudeen had told the court that the accused committed the offences on Nov. 10, 2017 at 9.30 a.m. at Oke-Aiyepe in Osogbo.
Tajudeen said the accused, who are suspected members of the Eiye cult, conspired and disturbed public peace.
He alleged that accused, armed with a gun, machetes and other dangerous weapons, had robbed people of their motorcycles and mobile phones.
The offences contravened Sections 6 (b),(1), (2), (a) and (b) of the Robbery and Firearms (Special Provisions) Act, Laws of the Federation.
The offences also violated Sections 64(a),(b), 249(d) and 516 of the Criminal Code, Laws of Osun State, 2003.
The case was adjourned until March 15.
