Some policemen and commercial motorcyclists locally known as Okada riders clashed on Friday in the Ogba area of Lagos following alleged shooting of one of the riders by a policeman.
It was learnt that the alleged shooting was carried out on Thursday after a policeman refused to pay for the service rendered to him by a motorcyclist.
“It’s a bike man vs policemen fight. An Okada rider rendered a service to a policeman yesterday, then asked for money after dropping him off. He was shot by the policeman who refused to pay him,” a source who did not want to be named told PUNCH.
“There was a sporadic shooting this morning, some minutes ago. All the Okada riders are off their bikes getting ready for a riot.”
Two people were allegedly killed in the late night scuffle, the source added.
Lagos State governor’s social media aide Jubril Gawat tweeted that normalcy had returned to the area.
“UPDATE: Normalcy has returned to Ogba by the Lagos Police Command in the area and @rrslagos767, All police presence gone and the roads have been partially reopened, Everyone going about their duties peacefully,” he said.
