Actress and chairperson of the Labour Party in Rivers State Hilda Dokubo has said the reports about her suspension from the party are false.
On Thursday, it was reported that she was suspended by executives of her ward in Asari Toru Local Government Area (LGA) of Rivers on allegations of financial misconduct, abuse of office and breach of party regulations among others.
According to the reports, the letter of suspension was addressed to the LP chairman of Asari Toru LGA and signed by some persons who claimed to be the ward executives.
However, on Friday, Dokubo addressed the reports and published letters written by the actual ward executives and Asari Toru LGA executives of LP stating their confidence in her leadership.
One of the letters described those who announced the false suspension as “agents of acrimony”.
Dokubo said she had no dealings with the party’s finances at the ward and even at state level.
“So the world may know that there is no truth in the news making the rounds that I have been suspended by my ward for financial mishandling.
“Let me start by stating unequivocally that even at the state level I have no dealings with the financials of our dear party, the Labour Party of Nigeria, let alone at the ward level where I am only a member. The party at both levels have financial secretaries and treasurers and I am neither,” she wrote on social media.
“I am however not ignorant of the cheap attempt to distract the unsuspecting public, and lovers of the Labour Party from the battles we have had to deal with,” Dokubo added.
In March 2023, LP national chairman Julius Abure announced Dokubo as head of a three-member steering committee for the Rivers State chapter of the party for one month.
The decision to appoint Dokubo-led team was sequel to the dissolution of a caretaker committee headed by Deinye Pepple.
