House on the Rock drummer Chris Okafor has died after slumping in church on Sunday, March 12.
The church’s founder Pastor Paul Adefarasin announced this in a statement on Monday.
He said, “We lost one of our own, and our hearts ache for a young man who died in his prime.
“Chris Okafor was full of life, his understanding of music and how beats make your worship experience so much better is a talent that he will be remembered for. Chris served with us in the music ministry arm of HOTR for over 12 years, and while serving, on Sunday, he slumped and was immediately rushed to our in-suite clinic for first aid before being rushed to the hospital.
“Since the news of his passing, we have been reflecting on the moments we had with him. We were so proud of all that he had achieved and we knew that he had so much more to manifest as a son of God.”
Adefarasin also had a message for Okafor’s wife Destiny. He said, “We put our arms around you, knowing that you hurt so deeply. However, be assured that you are not alone, and we will get through this together.”
To the late drummer’s aged father, the cleric said, “We hope that the memories of Chris will be a constant reminder of his purpose here on earth.”
Adefarasin also acknowledged the arm of the family to which Okafor belonged, the Lagos Metropolitan Gospel Choir (LMGC).
“Moments like this make us stronger, so let us stand in God’s unfailing promise, that though the night may come, joy awaits in the morning.
“Chris, you lived a fulfilling life. Rest in the bosom of our Lord. We pray that God will keep everyone that you have left behind. We will miss you on this side,” he added.
