First lady Aisha Buhari has congratulated the president-elect Bola Tinubu on his victory at the hard-fought polls.
Tinubu, a former Lagos State governor, polled a total of 8,794,726 votes to defeat his Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) rival, Atiku Abubakar, who polled 6,984,520 votes while Peter Obi of the Labour Party, secured 6,101,533, and Rabiu Kwankwaso of New Nigerian Peoples Party trailed with 1,496,687.
Tinubu won in Ekiti, Ondo, Ogun, Oyo (South West); Niger, Benue, Kogi, Kwara (North Central); Zamfara, Jigawa (North West); Borno (North East); and Rivers (South South).
He got 25 per cent of the total valid votes in 27 states.
The states where he got the required spread are Cross River, Akwa Ibom, Sokoto, Bauchi, Yobe, Kano, Kebbi, Plateau, Gombe, Kaduna, Nasarawa, Katsina, Taraba, Lagos and Osun.
Celebrating his victory on Wednesday, Mrs Buhari posted a couple of videos on Instagram with the caption “Alhamdulillah.”
In one of the videos, people believed to be Tinubu’s supporters are seen celebrating his victory.
She also posted another video of one of the campaign rallies that the APC women’s presidential campaign council held.
Mrs Buhari, who in 2022 apologised to Nigerians who may have been disappointed by her husband’s governance, will cease to be Nigeria’s first lady on May 29, 2023.
