Gunmen on Friday kidnapped Anambra State commissioner for youth development Patrick Mba and wife Chizoba Mba.
One of the commissioner’s aides Ernest Offiah, a lawyer, was killed.
They were attacked in Edo State while heading to Abuja for the wedding ceremony of Adaora, daughter of Anambra State Governor Charles Soludo.
The governor’s spokesman confirmed the development, saying efforts are ongoing to rescue the victims.
“We’re making efforts to rescue the commissioner and his wife,” he told Premium Times on Friday.
Anambra police spokesman Tochukwu Ikenga said the Command escalated the incident to other state commands for action as the incident did not happen in Anambra.
Adaora’s traditional marriage was held last week in Isuofia, a community in Aguata Local Government Area of the state.
Her church wedding is scheduled for Saturday, August 17 in Abuja.
Adaora’s husband Arinze Ibekwe is a native of Onitsha just like the kidnapped commissioner and the slain aide.
A video clip recorded after the attack which has been shared multiple times on social media shows a commercial Toyota Sienna belonging to GUO transport company with bullet holes and blood stains.
