Actress Eucharia Anunobi has opened up about how she copes with the loss of her only child, Raymond, who died in August 2017 at age 15 due to complications from sickle cell disease.
Speaking on the WithChude podcast, the 59-year-old shared that her Christian faith has been her source of strength, helping her navigate grief and understand the transient nature of life.
“That is one of the things that being born again, being a true Christian, bequeaths you with. As you grow in the word… not just reading it but meditatively reading it, practicing it,” she said.
She noted that studying the Bible and seeking wisdom from the Holy Spirit has given her a deeper understanding of life’s impermanence.
“Those things you see everywhere, that people are clamoring for are only temporal, there is no need killing yourself. So you come to understand that if you lose a loved one, yes, you love them, but because you have grown in the word of God… you know that the body is gone but the spirit is not gone.”
Eucharia expressed confidence that she would reunite with her son someday, adding that her faith provides peace amid sorrow.
“The comfort I have not to mourn unnecessarily or overtly over the loss of my only child as a single parent is that I know he is not gone. Yes, I know he is gone physically.
“I miss him, but I know the beautiful treasures of memories I have in my heart, and I know because the word of God says I will see him again.”
Eucharia was married to Charles Ekwu, Raymond’s father, in 2000, but their marriage ended in divorce after six years.
