How I found out I had breast cancer – Actress Tope Osoba

Actress Tope Osoba has shared her emotional journey of discovering and battling breast cancer.

In November 2024, the 39-year-old sought financial assistance through her colleague Foluke Daramola to undergo breast cancer surgery.

Speaking in an interview with BBC News, Tope said, “I discovered the issue one day while touching my body. I felt something on my breast resembling a bean that hadn’t been there before.”

She initially visited a private hospital, where the doctor dismissed her concerns, attributing the lump to her childbearing age and lack of breastfeeding experience. However, her unease persisted, prompting her to seek further tests, which confirmed the worst—it was breast cancer.

“The day I received the diagnosis was one of the worst days of my life,” she recalled.

“I worried about whether my breast would be removed or if I would survive, especially since I had no parents to support me.”

Tope disclosed that subsequent tests showed the cancer had not spread. She expressed relief and gratitude, noting that she did not require chemotherapy but only radiation therapy. However, the financial burden of her treatment was overwhelming.

In desperation, she turned to Foluke Daramola, who helped solicit funds on her behalf.

“Foluke later told me that the response was slow because many people didn’t know me. That’s why I decided to make a video showing my face to the public,” she said.

The move paid off, as donations began pouring in, enabling her to complete her treatment.

Now cancer-free, Tope expressed her heartfelt appreciation to everyone who supported her. She remains grateful for the generosity and prayers that saw her through the ordeal.
