Athlete Ese Brume has given insights into how she got a silver medal at the 2022 World Athletics Championship.
Brume, who specialises in long jump, came second at the championship with an impressive 7.02m leap.
Her compatriot Tobi Amusan won Nigeria’s first ever gold medal at the competition. Both of them are managed by Icon Management and sponsored by Adidas.
The duo won Nigeria’s only medals at the 2022 championship on the final day of the event.
Brume said in an Instagram post on Tuesday that their victory came about because they dared to dream.
She said, “For those who are wondering how it came about – Without leaps of imagination or dreaming, we lose the excitement of possibilities as athletes. Dreaming, after all, is a form of planning.
“Just like my coach will always say ‘It is the mental picture that creates the actual picture that will fiction in the future’. God has showed up. Turning our dream into reality.”
Born in Ughelli, Delta State, the 26-year-old also dropped a message for those still expecting breakthrough in their careers.
“To those still expecting,” she wrote, “The excitement of dreams coming true is beyond the description of words. Keep the faith. God is not dead. The vision is always for the appointed time. Be patient, prayerful and wait for the fulfillment of your visions.”
She then congratulated herself, Amusan, her coach Kayode Yaya and that of Amusan, Lacena Golding-Clarke, a Jamaican. Brume also congratulated her management team, sponsor and all who have been supportive of their careers.
This is not the first time Brume will be making the podium at a major tournament. She won bronze medals at the 2019 World Championships and the 2020 Olympics in Tokyo.
She visited Ogun State after winning bronze at the Tokyo Olympics to present her medal to Bishop David Oyedepo.
