Nollywood actress Patience Ozokwo on Friday, October 29 lamented the rate at which scammers use her name to defraud members of the public.
The 63-year-old narrated in an Instagram post how she was attacked by a group in France due to the activities of fraudsters and impersonators.
“Why do people always try to discredit genuine businesses by creating fake accounts and duping people of their hard-earned money? I cannot count how many messages I have received about giveaways I’m doing on Facebook or other social media platforms,” she wrote.
“A while ago I was vehemently attacked by a group in France who swore I signed a contract and took a huge deposit to do business with them – it certainly wasn’t me. To be honest it is quite disheartening. Any brand I support is genuine 💯 If they stop being genuine, I leave sharp sharp.”
The veteran actress apologised to all who have been defrauded in her name, adding that she is doing all she can to close fraudulent social media accounts created in her name.
“My apologies to all those who have been duped in my name. I have tried to close so many fake accounts – still trying. Please note that anything that sounds too good to be true is probably not true. Investigate before you invest. Check for real accounts and contacts,” she said.
Patience is not alone in the fight against fraudsters. Many other celebrities have at one time or the other raised alarm over fraudulent accounts.
Patience, whom many know as Mama G, recently spoke about how she is not afraid to look old and be old.
“I own my age and experience with my full chest and count it an enormous blessing. Comments like ‘she now looks so old’, ‘she don old suddenly’, ‘she don old finish’, ‘Ahaa Mama what happened’, make me smile,” she said in an Instagram post.
