Kano-based Islamic cleric Sheik Aminu Daurawa has said that Ummukulthum Sani, who was allegedly killed on September 16 in Kano State, called him a week before her death for advice about her romantic relationship with a Chinese.
Ummukulthum, fondly called Ummita and Ummu, was dating Chinese national Geng Quanrong before her death. The Chinese allegedly attacked her after she told him she was ending their relationship.
Daurawa said Ummu told him she was in love with the Chinese but her family did not want her to marry him.
“She called to tell me she was ready to marry a Chinese but her family was against it and I told her her family was right because authorities must first of all be involved in order to know the person very well,” he told BBC Pidgin.
The cleric also said he told her that if the Chinese accepts Islam, the next thing would be to involve immigration, then Sarkin Yan China who is the leader of the Chinese community in Kano and Hisbah (police) too so that he could learn all about Islam.
“Unfortunately, I heard about the sad development, justice must be served because I can’t imagine a Nigerian entering China to kill their citizen, we will never hear about the Nigerian again,” he said.
Ummu was reportedly dating the Chinese before she got married. After the marriage failed, she continued her relationship with him.
