Reno Omokri, a former media aide to ex-President Goodluck Jonathan, says he spoke with the father of the abducted Dapchi schoolgirl Leah Sharibu following reports she had a second baby in Boko Haram captivity.
A United States-based group US-Nigeria Law Group had alleged in a statement that Sharibu gave birth to a second child late last year.
Mr Omokri in a tweet called for the rescue of Sharibu, adding that she is still wanted back even if she’s had 10 babies.
“It is not possible for a girl that was abducted and held at gunpoint to consent to sexual intercourse, let alone marriage. Leah Sharibu is a hostage. I spoke to her father. We still want her back even if she has given birth to 10 babies. Still #FreeLeahSharibu!” he wrote.
The teenage girl who was kidnapped from her school in Dapchi, Yobe State, in February 2018 was reported to have given birth to her first child, a boy, in January 2020. According to reports, she was forcefully married to a top Boko Haram commander who lives outside Nigeria.
Sharibu was part of 110 schoolgirls of Government Girls’ Science and Technical College (GGSTC) who were kidnapped by Boko Haram insurgents at the time.
While majority of the girls have regained their freedom, Sharibu was held back for refusing to denounce her Christian faith.
