The family of Prophet Oriyomi Remilekun has been thrown into mourning after he drowned during a beach hangout in the Ajah area of Lagos State.
Remilekun led some youths of his white garment church based in Gbagada to Avista Beach on February 17 to commemorate Valentine’s Day, PUNCH Metro gathered.
The cleric however did not return home with the youths when the picnic ended.
A source told the newspaper that a search for Remilekun proved abortive.
The source said the youths, altogether 16, first lodged at a shortlet apartment very close to the resort where they had a party before moving into the beach resort in the evening.

“Around 9pm, they prepared to leave and when they got to the car park, they discovered that Oriyomi was missing. When they asked his girlfriend, she said he gave her his phone, went in and promised to come back. They later went to the beach, searched for him and could not find him before they left,” the source said.
The search for him continued on Sunday morning although unsuccessful. The youths then reported the issue at Ogombo Police Station.
A member of Avista Beach management, however, told the newspaper that Remilekun’s remains were washed ashore on Baracuda Beach Resort, a separate beach located in the community, on Monday.
“They started the search around 9pm and that time in Lagos is just like early morning. Why didn’t they raise the alarm but instead went home that night?” the management source told the newspaper on Tuesday.
