Pop diva Tiwa Savage was listed as the number one trending musician of 2021 by Google on Wednesday December 8.
Google’s 2021 Year in Search compiles the moments, people, topics, events, and places that capture the world’s attention each year.
Tiwa takes the number one spot in music category for the release of her sex video of her and an unidentified partner in October.
The 41-year-old had earlier said during an interview Angie Martinez of Power 105.1 in New York, that someone was blackmailing her with the sex video but she was not going to pay anybody for doing something natural. The 10-seconds video was eventually released and it is living rent-free in thousands on mobile phones around the world.
Instagram blogger Gistlover, however, alleged that there was no sex tape and that the singer made up the blackmail story to promote her song ‘Somebody’s son’.
Responding in an Instagram post on October 19, Tiwa who made jokes about the alleged sex tape at a concert organised by the Lagos State Government said the blogger hated how she was able to change the narrative in her favour.
“You hated how I was able to control the narrative and get ahead of a story before it consumed me and how I’m able to do a joke on stage about something you thought should destroy me and make me feel ashamed,” she wrote.
While some drummed support for the mother of one, others criticised her and demanded she apologised to the public for her ‘reckless’ act.
Some celebrities like Mercy Aigbe, Noble Igwe, IK Ogbonna supported the singer as they uploaded her picture and hailed her on Instagram.
However, actress Chioma Ifemeludike condemned the act by Tiwa, stating that the singer must apologise to her fans.
The actress also slammed those supporting the singer, calling them hypocrites.
Tiwa who appeared to be unbothered by the harsh critiques from the public, broke her silence on the matter in an Instagram post on October 22.
Sharing a photo of herself in a cleavage-baring white jumpsuit, Tiwa wrote “Change the sh*t to the game and never speak of it again.”
The statement, however, did not sit well with some Nigerians who accused her of intentionally releasing her sex tape to chase clout.
Others slammed her for being unapologetic.
Tired of the hate and bashing, Tiwa in an Instagram post on October 25, lamented the attack and constant backlash from critics over the sex tape.
“I was sad at the passing of my dad and 44 but at least they are no longer in this cruel place. Some people will be happy when I’m no more,” she wrote.
Before Google’s 2021 list was released, Tiwa had already emerged one of the top trending searches on Google in October.
