The entertainment industry has witnessed two losses in Nollywood following the mysterious deaths of actresses Chinedu Bernard who died on Friday, April 29 and Francisca Choji whose death was announced two days after.
Chinedu Bernard, a fast-rising actress, slumped on Friday, April 29 while cleaning the Chapel of St. Leo the Great Catholic Church inside the Federal Housing area in Enugu State.
The Priest Rev Fr. Uchendu Chukwuma and some parishioners rushed her to East Side Hospital in Enugu where she was confirmed dead.
However, concerns were raised when photos of the deceased in a hospital bed with bruises on her face were posted on Instagram, causing the national president of the Actors Guild of Nigeria (AGN) Emeka Rollas to demand an autopsy to ascertain the real cause of Chinedu’s death.
Mr Rollas stated that the actress was either killed or took a poisonous substance and decided to die in the church.
According to him, many questions are yet to be answered concerning Chinedu’s mysterious death.
He wrote: “Many questions yet to be answered concerning the death of Actress Chinedu Bernard. 1. How can someone who slumped inside a church sustain bruises on the face? 2. Who are Chinedu’s parishioners friends? 3. Who are Chinedu’s friends in Enugu where she is practising her craft? So it’s either someone killed her or she took a suicidal substance and decided to die in the church. Autopsy must be conducted to ascertain the main cause of her death.”
While the entertainment industry mourned Chinedu, it was dealt with another blow as up-and-coming actress Francisca Choji’s death was announced.
Francisca’s body was found at Rayfield Resort hotel in Jos, Plateau State on May 1.
Mourning the deceased, her friend Kenny Joy wrote on Facebook: “If we had the courage to question God we will ask him just one word which is “why” but it is not in our place to do so, he knows all that, I still can’t live with this but then I have no choice, we miss and will always miss you rest on and let your cold body fight for your death if truly, your life was taken by man.
“And if not then it’s a rest in peace and God have mercy on your beloved soul Doris Mafeng, Choji (Francisca)
Good night mummy.”
The cause of Choji’s death has not been revealed at the time of filing this report.
Recall that in March 2022 another up-and-coming actress Veronica Takor died mysteriously in a hotel in Benue State one week after celebrating her birthday.
