Actress and reality star Iyabo Ojo has said that she chose to become the villain in the second season of the Real Housewives of Lagos because the producers told her she had low ratings in the first season.
The second season of the show has been filled with banters and fights between Iyabo and Laura Ikeji and also between Iyabo and Faith Morey.
In an Instagram live session on Monday, the actress said that her on-screen behaviour was merely a scripted performance aimed at adding some drama to the series and that her actions were engineered by the producers.
She explained that after receiving feedback about her low ratings in the first season, she decided to step up her game in the second season and become the villain by adding a touch of drama.
Despite issuing a previous open apology to cast members and anyone offended by her choices, the 46-year-old maintains that her actions were part of the show’s demand for heightened drama. She urged Nigerians to consider that drama is a vital ingredient in many international Real Housewives franchises.

She said: “There is no real housewives without drama, It is not possible. So if you choose to not give drama, you know you have to be on the calm side. Last year, Laura chose to give drama and that is why most of the time when we asked Laura “Why are you behaving like this?” She would say it’s for the show, no hard feelings. That does not mean that fights don’t happen on the show.
“There are certain things that happen on the show, that you are given directives to do. For me, the show told me that in season one, my ratings were low because I did not do any drama, I really didn’t do drama so my ratings were low. So I said this year, I said I will give drama.”
