Veteran actress, Idowu Philips, popularly known as Iya Rainbow, has revealed she cried when newspapers reffered to her as a cheap actress.
The 76-year-old made the disclosure in a chat with punching.com.
Answering a question about better remuneration for actors in the modern age, she said: “If there was this much money in the industry when I started acting, I would have built several houses. At a time, I was even called the cheapest actress in several newspapers.”
Describing how she felt about the news reports, she continued: “I cried bitterly. Then I took the newspaper to my children at home, and they consoled me. I thank God that he blessed me with good children who always listened to me.”
More recently, Iya Rainbow has been involved in a series of advertorial projects with telecommunication giants, Airtel.
She was born on October 16, 1942.
Her stage name Iya Rainbow stems from ‘Osumare,’ the Yoruba word for rainbow, the name of the theatre group of legendary playwright, Sir Hubert Ogunde, who died in 1990.
