Singer, Azeez Fashola, popularly known as Naira Marley, has clarified his position on the coronavirus pandemic, saying, “I didn’t say I believe or don’t believe in coronavirus.”
The 25-year-old was responding to the criticism he faced on Twitter on Monday over a series of tweets he shared concerning the outbreak.
The ‘Mafo’ singer first joked about a reported ‘5000 cases’ in the Lekki area of Lagos State.
He wrote, “5000 cases confirmed in Lekki… I’m talking about unwanted pregnancies.”
This joke did not go down well with some users on the platform who had feared that he was talking about coronavirus.
Then he asked his followers to “retweet if u don’t believe in Coronavirus.”
Again, this caused confusion among the Twittersphere and Naira Marley attempted to explain himself in a now-deleted tweet.
He wrote, “I said retweet if you don’t believe in coronavirus, I didn’t say type if you believe. I didn’t say I believe or I don’t believe in coronavirus. F**king illiterates. Number one: You are a nobody and I don’t believe in what you believe in. I have my own mind, didirin.”
The Lagos-born singer’s comments come as Nigeria recorded its first coronavirus death on Monday.
