Kaduna State first lady Hadiza El-Rufai says the general public can see she has no influence on her husband Nasir El-Rufai after the latter appointed a man to be the new emir of Zazzau.
Mrs El-Rufai had earlier appealed to the governor to consider having a woman head the Zazzau emirate in the spirit of gender equality.
The announcement on Wednesday of Ahmed Bamalli as the 19th emir of Zazzau quashed the first lady’s hopes of another Queen Amina of Zazzau after the mid-sixteenth century warrior.
Making allusion to President Muhammadu Buhari’s referral of bedroom as “the other room”, the first lady wrote: “In spite of all my whisperings in za oza room, @elrufai chose a man to be the new leader in Zazzau Emirate. Now everyone knows that l have no influence on my husband.”
The seat of emir of Zazzau became vacant following the death of Shehu Idris at the 44 Army Reference Hospital, Kaduna in September.
Bamalli is the first emir from the Mallawa ruling house in 100 years, following the demise of his grandfather Emir Dan Sidi in 1920.
