I don’t need you! Lizzy Anjorin hits back at Tope Alabi over refusal to perform at birthday party

Actress Lizzy Anjorin has reacted to gospel singer Tope Alabi’s controversial refusal to perform at her surprise birthday celebration.

According to reports, fans of the actress in the diaspora raised a significant sum of money and paid Tope Alabi to make a surprise appearance at the party. However, the identity of the celebrant was kept hidden from the singer.

Upon arrival at the venue and realising the surprise was for Lizzy Anjorin, Tope Alabi refused to step out of her car. She later returned home and refunded the money paid.

The incident has since generated heated reactions on social media, especially from Lizzy’s fans who criticised the singer’s decision.

Reacting in a live video shared online on Saturday, Lizzy explained that she had no hand in inviting Tope and said the money spent could have been better used.

“I am a Muslim and I didn’t expect my fans to invite a gospel singer to my birthday. They should have invited an Islamic singer who is my fan,” she said.

“I can never use my money to call Aunty Tope Alabi to sing for me. The best of her songs is in her album and I can easily play it in my house.

“The millions my fans sent to her could have been given to beggars on the street or people that need their hospital bills to be paid.”

She went on to express disappointment at the waste of funds.

“A pregnant woman d!ed recently because she couldn’t afford 500k for hospital bills. I don’t do copy copy like other people. I already warned my fans to stop wasting money.”

Despite the drama, Lizzy expressed gratitude for life and good health on her birthday.

“I thank God I am alive and healthy for my birthday. I don’t know why she refused to come down from the car but the reason is best known to her. I hope my fans have learned their lessons from this. Aunty Tope, I love you but I don’t need you.”
