Pop star Davido has revealed that he and his team completed his fourth studio album Timeless before the death of his son Ifeanyi.
Ifeanyi, Davido’s first child with wife Chioma, died in a swimming pool on October 31, 2022.
The 30-year-old singer told CNN in an interview that the album was already set before the unfortunate death of his son.
“Before my son passed, we had finished the album. But it was a tragic situation and I really had to calm myself down and take a step back,” he explained.
Following Ifeanyi’s death, Davido and wife mourned him for months and stayed off social media until late March when the singer announced the album.
The 17-track album Timeless is Davido’s first in three years since A Better Time in 2020. On Friday, it amassed one million streams on Boomplay in just six hours.
The album is also currently the No. 1 album on Nigeria’s Top Albums Chart, UK’s Top Albums Chart as well as in 17 other countries on Apple Music.
“On the album, you will hear a couple of songs that might take you back and into some emotions … you will definitely hear me talk about a couple of things I’ve been through personally,” he added.
