I had no child to celebrate my 60th birthday – Dupe Jaiyesimi

Veteran actress Dupe Jaiyesimi has shared her personal struggles, revealing the pain of childlessness, a lost pregnancy and an abandoned marriage.

Speaking in an emotional interview on Biola Adebayo’s podcast, Dupe admitted that her greatest sadness stems from not having children to celebrate her 60th birthday with.

She recalled a painful moment when she was pregnant but lost the baby due to an ectopic pregnancy.

“I was once pregnant, but the scan showed that the baby was growing outside of the womb. After a few weeks, I lost the pregnancy,” she revealed.

The heartbreak of her miscarriage was compounded when her husband brought another woman into their home—already carrying his child.

“After I lost the pregnancy, my husband brought another woman home, and she was already expecting his baby,” she recounted. “I had no choice but to walk away, and since then, I have remained single.”

Despite her desire for motherhood, Dupe said she had undergone two rounds of In Vitro Fertilization (IVF), both of which failed.

She also considered adoption but was discouraged by her late mother.

“I attempted IVF twice, but it failed,” she said. “At a point, I thought of adopting, but my mother warned me not to bring any child I didn’t conceive into my life.”

She reflected on why she chose to remain single, explaining that many men she encountered were only interested in taking advantage of her.

“Most men just wanted to have a piece of me, so I decided to stay single,” she said.

The actress, who was once a prominent face in Yoruba films, admitted that she had been absent from the industry for over seven years, neither featuring in movies nor producing her own projects.

“The only thing I know how to do best is acting, but I have not been in movies for over seven years,” she lamented. “I haven’t produced any either.”

Despite these challenges, Dupe remains hopeful about motherhood.

“As long as there is life, there is hope,” she declared. “I still believe I can have my own child.”

She emphasised that she was not sharing her story for sympathy but to inspire women facing similar struggles.

“I am not telling my story for people to pity me,” she said. “I just want people to know that life may not always go as planned, but we must keep faith.”

Her story has resonated with many, with fans and colleagues commending her strength and resilience.

While some praised her decision to walk away from a toxic marriage, others encouraged her not to give up on her dream of becoming a mother.
