Actress Chioma Akpotha has revealed that she had to learn Yoruba for her role in the recently released Netflix series Seven Doors.
In the series, Chioma plays Queen Amaka, an Igbo queen married to a Yoruba king, portrayed by Femi Adebayo.
The story delves into themes of kingship, family, love, betrayal and restitution, with Chioma’s role requiring her to speak Yoruba fluently.
Speaking during a TVC interview alongside co-star Femi, Chioma disclosed the challenge of learning the language, saying:
“I had to learn Yoruba for my role in Seven Doors. The Yoruba in the movie was not the regular one spoken in Lagos State, so I had to be very particular about the tone.”
Chioma’s portrayal of Queen Amaka, a resourceful and resolute queen navigating palace intrigues in Ilara Kingdom, has earned her praise from viewers.
The limited series, which premiered on Netflix on December 13, has been lauded for its compelling storyline and impressive performances.
Seven Doors also stars Kolawole Ajeyemi, Adebayo Salami, Jide Kosoko, Hafiz Oyetoro, Dele Odule and other Nollywood stars.
