Footballer Odion Ighalo has revealed that he has faithfully paid his tithe since 2005 when he received his first salary as a professional player.
Speaking in an interview with Rasheedat Ajibade on Ash Christ TV, Ighalo recalled his early days, sharing that his first paycheck was N15,000 and that his pastor’s teachings on tithing motivated him to start giving.
“My first salary was in 2005 as a footballer. It was N15,000, and because my pastor taught me about tithing, I have been paying until today. I haven’t missed paying tithe,” he said.
Ighalo, who began his career at Nigerian clubs Prime and Julius Berger before moving to Norwegian side Lyn in 2007, is known for his strong Christian faith.
He has consistently used part of his earnings to support charitable causes, including aiding underprivileged children, schools and widows in Nigeria.
The footballer has three children—two sons and a daughter.
He was previously married to Sonia Adesuwa, but their relationship ended in divorce in 2022 after they separated in 2019.
