Filmmaker Ibrahim Yekini, better known as Itele, has opened up about the life-threatening challenges he faced before achieving fame.
Speaking on Biola Adebayo’s podcast, Talk to B, Itele revealed the extent of his struggles, describing how he and his mother worked tirelessly to make ends meet.
While his mother sold ready-made clothes, Itele hawked jewelry around Bauchi village.
“I have faced challenges that almost took my life. The kind that makes you wish you could run back to your mother’s womb. I suffered when suffering was still original,” he said.
The actor credited Papa T for being instrumental in his journey, describing him as a helper sent by God.
Itele also expressed admiration for Nollywood stars Richard Mofe Damijo, Yomi Fash-Lanso, and Adebayo Salami, whom he considers his role models.
“I’ve been in the industry since 1997. Adebayo Salami is a fortunate man, and so are his children. Femi Adebayo has made a great impact on my life. Uncle Femi, thank you for all you do,” he added.
Itele also reflected on his early years in the industry, saying he once felt unlucky despite his hard work, but he now attributes his success to God’s grace.
The 45-year-old began his acting career in 2000 but gained widespread recognition after producing and starring in the hit movie Monje in 2019.
