Filmmaker and political appointee Laide Bakare has addressed controversies surrounding her political ascent and an ongoing feud with fellow actress Eniola Badmus.
In a recent interview with media personality Seun Oloketuyi, Laide shed light on both her rise in politics and the clash with Eniola.
Earlier this year, the movie star’s political journey took off when Governor Ademola Adeleke of Osun State appointed her as the Senior Special Assistant on entertainment, art, culture and tourism.
The appointment announced in February sparked mixed reactions.
Some hailed the move as a step forward for the state’s cultural landscape while others questioned Laide’s credentials for the role.
The actress recounted how her connection with Governor Adeleke blossomed during a trip to the United States.
She praised his personable nature and his keen interest in empowering younger generations, crediting him with seeing her potential.
However, as Laide’s political career took flight, her relationship with Eniola unraveled.
The once-private feud between the two actresses became public after a heated confrontation.
Laide recalled a recent encounter where Eniola accused her of making a hurtful comment, claiming that she had called her “childless.”
The 44-year-old was visibly shaken by the accusation, vehemently denying any such remarks.
She clarified that her intention was to encourage Eniola to consider starting a family, not to insult or belittle her.
“I never called her childless,” she explained. “I simply suggested that she think about starting a family. It wasn’t meant to hurt her. I don’t mean getting married, just having kids of your own. Sometimes, my words are misunderstood, but my advice was genuine.”
