Pop artiste Davido on Monday said he never denied protesting against the now-defunct Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS).
After his meeting with the Inspector General of Police Mohammed Adamu, the 27-year-old singer released a statement on Twitter saying, “I want to make it clear that I never went there to deny protesting, my comment was taken out of context.”
“I was trying to explain that I was not at the protest to cause trouble or fight as you can hear me say in the video, but rather I was there in solidarity with every Nigerian demanding an end to police brutality,” he added.
Born David Adeleke, Davido held a meeting with the IGP to discuss the demands of the youth as regards SARS.
Before he met with the IGP, he spoke with the spokesman of the Force Frank Mba who questioned him on joining the #EndSARS protest. A recording from the session appeared to show him deny being part of the protest.
Davido was accompanied to the meeting by his lawyer, Korede Bello, D’banj, CDQ and others.
