Actor Muyiwa Ademola has called on Nigerians to support his cinema debut, Ori: The Rebirth, a sequel to his 2003 hit movie Ori, set for release in May.
Muyiwa revealed he spent over N400 million and appealed to the public to help him recover his investment and turn a profit.
“I have spent millions, like over N400 million, investing in my new movie. You will love it and enjoy it. I need to make back my money. I need to make money, I need profit,” he said.
He added, “If you watched the first Ori and didn’t enjoy it, don’t watch this one.”
In January, the 54-year-old celebrated his birthday by unveiling Ori: The Rebirth. He shared a compilation clip on Instagram, urging fans to support the film’s cinema release on May 1, 2025.
“Ori has moved from being just a film to something hugely phenomenal. 22 years after the film was made, a day would never pass without me meeting someone who would ask me to remake this film.
“Ladies and gentlemen, Ori: The Rebirth is ready! Hitting cinemas from May 1, 2025! The world must see Ori: The Rebirth. Please, journey with me again, guys. This is all I request from you for my birthday. Happy Birthday to me once again,” he wrote.
Written, produced and directed by Muyiwa, the film also features contributions from notable filmmakers Adebayo Tijani and Tope Adebayo Salami, with Filmone Entertainment handling distribution.
The original Ori, released in 2003, was a critically acclaimed Yoruba-language film exploring themes of destiny, perseverance and self-discovery.
It starred veterans like Lere Paimo, Sola Sobowale, Peju Ogunmola, Oga Bello, Saheed Balogun, Jide Kosoko, Faithia Balogun and Fausat Balogun.
