Filmmaker Ibinabo Fiberesima has said she started the Africa Movie Academy Awards (AMAA) with the late Peace Anyiam-Osigwe.
Anyiam-Osigwe died on January 9, 2023, aged 53. Her brainchild clocked 20 years this year.
Speaking with QEDNG at AMAA 2024 held on November 2 at Balmoral Convention Centre, Sheraton Hotel, Lagos, Fiberesima said: “You know I started AMAA with her from day one. I want to say thank you to her family for keeping her dream alive. She worked too hard to throw this away so I really appreciate the fact that her family are keeping the legacy alive.”
The 54-year-old said she doesn’t see AMAA dying.
Dubbed the “queen of Nollywood films,” Anyiam-Osigwe is credited to have pioneered the screening of Nollywood films at international film festivals.
She was in a coma from January 7, 2023, and died at St. Nicholas Hospital in Lagos on January 9.
