Singer Spyro has opened up about the disappointment he faced after a high-profile collaboration with Afrobeats stars Davido and Mayorkun failed to give him the breakthrough he had expected.
In 2018, Spyro featured the DMW boss and Mayorkun on the remix of his song ‘Funke.’
Speaking in a recent interview with HipTV, the 34-year-old said he was confident the track would change his life, but things didn’t go as planned.
“I had a song back then, and I had Davido and Mayorkun on it. I thought my life was about to change. The song came out and it was big, and all of a sudden I went back down,” he said.
Spyro added that he eventually lost communication with both artistes, a situation that left him feeling abandoned and emotional.
“I sat down and thought about it because how do you go from working with Davido, vibing with Mayorkun and all those guys, and all of a sudden, they do not even pick your calls anymore,” he said.
“There are times where I would just sit down on my staircase back then and I would cry. I had my parents at home that I need to take care of, a lot of things were just going wrong.”
Spyro, whose real name is Olusipe David, eventually found success years later with the 2022 hit ‘Who Is Your Guy’.
He has since released other popular songs like ‘Billing,’ ‘No Gree for Anybody,’ ‘Funke’ and ‘For You’ and has collaborated with stars like Tiwa Savage and Simi.
