Reggae-dancehall singer, Patoranking, has revealed that he was hawking in traffic in Cotonou, Benin Republic as a 12-year-old.
The 28-year-old musician revealed this in an interview with Okay Africa.
“My dad was a petty trader, so I was selling with him. We sold in traffic in Cotonou, when I was 12. Just look at any 12-year-old now, I was like that hawking on the streets of Lagos.
“There’s nothing I didn’t sell. But you know the one people talk about online and people laugh about is that I sold rat poison,” he said.
In the interview, he also said that the first thing he did after making money was moving his parents out of their apartment in Ebute Metta.
Last week, Patoranking announced that his toddler daughter, Wilmer, had completed her church baptism.
Wilmer was born in August 2018.
Patoranking released his sophomore album titled Wilmer, dedicated to his daughter in May.
The 12-track album includes the chart-topping single ‘Confirm’ with colleague, Davido, and critically acclaimed single ‘Lenge Lenge.’
In a statement made available to Qed.ng, the singer said: “I’ve put my heart and soul into this album. Wilmer has purely been a blessing and I hope this project encourages you motivates you and blesses you.
“The journey hasn’t been easy but we are thankful for where we are headed.’’
