Ibinabo Fiberesima tearfully pleads for peace amid Rivers crisis

Actress Ibinabo Fiberesima has emotionally reacted to the ongoing political turmoil in Rivers State, insisting that the situation was not dire enough to warrant a state of emergency.

Her reaction follows President Bola Tinubu’s announcement on Tuesday of a six-month suspension of Governor Siminalayi Fubara, his deputy and all members of the Rivers State House of Assembly, citing rising political tension and governance breakdown.

Addressing the press on Wednesday, a visibly distraught Ibinabo pleaded for peace, questioning the sudden military presence in the state.

“We found peace finally. And then today, you come out and you see army people driving around, like there’s something going on that is wrong. This is not right. This is not right. We are at peace.

“Let our children, let our families be at peace. Let people go to work in peace. All these army people driving about, this is not right. This is not right. This is not right. Our governor is peaceful. We love him. Leave us in peace. What is all this?” she said tearfully.

Her colleague, Hilda Dokubo, also weighed in, describing the crisis as a calculated attempt to take control of the state’s economic resources.

“I’ll say it over and over, what is going on in Rivers State is not about Fubara. What is going on in Rivers State is a comeback for the economic soul of the state. Someone wants to grab the economic soul of Rivers State,” Hilda asserted.

She further alleged that Fubara had faced deliberate obstruction before his suspension, arguing that the unrest was a strategic move against the state’s leadership.
