Ice Prince recounts horrible experience at Ikoyi Prison

Singer Panshak Zamani, popularly known as Ice Prince, has opened up about his time at the Ikoyi Correctional Centre in Lagos, describing the experience as “horrible.”

Speaking on the latest episode of the Listen podcast, Ice Prince revealed that he spent six days in the facility in 2022, where he received no preferential treatment.

“I didn’t get preferential treatment. It’s a prison, so there was no preferential treatment. I’m not talking about a police cell.

“I’ve seen celebrities who come out of police cells bragging as if they went through some stuff, but if you’ve never been to prison, you haven’t seen it yet,” he said.

The ‘Oleku’ singer however reflected on the unexpected bonds he formed with fellow inmates, likening the experience to “a different institution of higher learning.”

He said, “I made friends in there. We hung out and chatted. It’s a different world. I don’t pray for my worst enemy to experience it.”

Ice Prince described his arrest as a misunderstanding, claiming he was joking with the police officer when he drove off during a stop-and-search operation.

The rapper was arrested in September 2022 by the Lagos State Police Command.

Police spokesperson Benjamin Hundeyin alleged that Ice Prince was flagged down for driving without a license plate.

After agreeing to be taken to the station, the singer allegedly abducted and assaulted the officer, threatening to throw him into the lagoon.

Hundeyin confirmed the arrest in a statement shared on Twitter, sparking widespread reactions at the time.

Ice Prince’s case has since been resolved.
