Brown Ideye has joined Spanish LaLiga side, Malaga, on loan from Tianjin Teda.
After an underwhelming debut campaign in the Chinese Super League where he bagged just four goals in 14 league games, the 29-year-old has opted for a temporary move to Spain to bolster his chances of playing for Gernot Rohr’s squad in the 2018 World Cup in Russia.
Ideye moved to China in February 2017 after his incredible goalscoring run for Olympiakos having registered 23 efforts in 44 league games across two seasons.
“Málaga CF have signed Brown Ideye on loan until the end of the season, from the Chinese club Tianjin Teda. The striker has already passed the relevant medical examination at the Vithas Salud Rincon Medical Center Rosaleda,” Malaga announced on their official website on Monday.
“Aide Brown Ideye, born in Nigeria on October 10, 1988 (29 years old), is a powerful striker and scorer with extensive experience in several European leagues. After emerging in the Nigerian football scene in 2006, a year later he joined Switzerland side Neuchatel Xamax (2007-09).
“Later, Ideye played for FC Sochaux in the French Ligue 1 (2009-11) and Ukrainian side Dynamo Kyiv (2011-14), where he scored two goals in a friendly against Málaga CF in the 2013/14 campaign.
“He also signed for West Bromwich Albion in the English Premier League (2014-15) and Greek’s Olympiacos FC (2015-17). His notable goalscoring figures drew the attention of the emerging Super League in China, signing last year for Tianjin Teda.
“Ideye has 28 internationals (6 goals) with Nigeria’s national team, with whom he won the Africa Cup of Nations in 2013.
“At club level, he won the Super League with Olympiakos as well as a Ukrainian Cup and Super Cup with Dynamo Kyiv.”
