British actor, Idris Elba, has landed the role of a Nigerian DJ in a new Netflix web series titled Turn Up Charlie.
The 46-year-old Londoner plays the titular character of an old-school D.J, Charlie, who is 20 years past his lone hit and too ashamed to tell his parents back in Nigeria that he’s a failure.
In the movie, Charlie is given a final chance at success when he reluctantly becomes a nanny to his famous best friend’s problem-child daughter.
The series follows his adventures an a nanny in London and Ibiza.
Nigerian-British actor and writer, Femi Oyeniran collaborated with Laura Neal, and Victoria Asare-Archer, and Georgia Lester as writers for the British web series.
The movie premiered on Netflix on Friday, the same day as EbonyLife films’ movie, Chief Daddy.
One of Britain’s best-known stars, Elba won a Golden Globe for his lead role in BBC television detective series Luther, played a Norse god in Thor and appeared in US television series The Wire.
