Founder, Capital Oil and Gas Limited, Ifeanyi Ubah, has denied reports that he was arrested by operatives of Department of State Services (DSS), according to a report by The Guardian.
The newspaper said its spoke with the oil magnate on the telephone on Thursday, during which he said rumours of his arrest were mere propaganda.
Some media outlets had reported that he was detained over allegation by the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) that Capital Oil could not account for 100 million litres of petrol stored in its depot in Lagos.
“If I am arrested, I would not be talking with you now. They should continue writing, but those who are in doubt should come and watch football match tomorrow because I would be there,” The Guardian quoted the founder of FC IfeanyiUbah.
An aide of the 45-yeaar-old was also quoted as saying “I can tell you that my boss’s good name in the country today cannot be smeared. He is a hardworking businessman. All these propaganda about him is because he has become a big force to be reckoned with in Nigeria.”
Daily Post, however, said an unnamed staff confirmed his boss’ arrest.
“The news is true. Our bosses wore long faces this morning. They have not said anything to us yet,” the source was quoted as saying.
A post on Ubah’s verified Facebook page was silent on the arrest, favouring instead to thank fans of FC IfeanyiUbah for supporting the club and its management.
