Gunmen have made an attempt on the life of Senator Ifeanyi Ubah at Enugwu-Ukwu community in Njikoka Local Government Area of Anambra State.
The lawmaker’s convoy was targeted on Sunday evening. Five bodies, which included orderlies, were seen in a viral video of the crime scene.
A close ally of the senator told PUNCH that the federal lawmaker, who represents Anambra South at the Senate, was fine.
“He survived it but there are casualties. Some policemen in his convoy were killed. I just spoke with him. He’s okay but told me there are casualties,” the source said.
It was not immediately clear how Ubah escaped the attack.
Anambra police spokesman Toochukwu Ikenga could not confirm the number of casualties as of press time.
He said, “The commissioner of police Anambra State Command, CP Echeng Echeng, has today (Sunday) led police operatives to the scene where sporadic shootings took place in Enugu-Ukwu.
“Though the details of the incident are still sketchy, operatives are on the ground there as operations are going on and the situation is being monitored. Further details shall be communicated please.”
