The body of Senator Ifeanyi Ubah, who represented Anambra South in the National Assembly, has arrived in his hometown in Nnewi for burial on Friday.
Ubah died on July 26 aged 52 in London.
The body was escorted into his country home in a luxury vehicle by pallbearers dressed in black suits.
On Monday, a night of tributes was held in his honour in Abuja.
Among attendees at the event were former President Goodluck Jonathan, Senate President Godswill Akpabio, former Senate Presidents Anyim Pius and Bukola Saraki, former governor of Imo State, Senator Rochas Okorocha; Senator Solomon Adeola, Senate Majority Leader Senator Opeyemi Bamidele, chairman/chief executive officer of Air Peace, Allen Onyema and minister of state for foreign affairs Bianca Ojukwu.
The Senate held a valedictory session on Tuesday to honour him.
A casket bearing Ubah’s remains was placed in state at the foyer of the White House wing, directly in front of the Senate Chamber.
In a show of respect, Akpabio wore traditional Isi-Enyi attire, complemented by a red cap. Bamidele dressed in Isi-Agwu attire.
Ubah’s vacant seat in the chamber was decorated with flowers and draped in cloth bearing the colours of the Nigerian flag.
Senator Ali Ndume called on his colleagues to allow the widow Uchenna Ubah to replace her husband in the Senate.
The session was opened to non-senators, with dignitaries and guests allowed to pay their respects. Vice President Kashim Shettima, former Anambra State governor Chris Ngige and former Anambra Central Senator Uche Ekwunife were among the notable attendees.
On Thursday, the family held a wake in Nnewi in preparation for the burial.
