Nigeria international Odion Ighalo has reopened his Instagram comment section to allow fans react to his posts.
Ighalo had locked the section following hate messages during the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia where the Super Eagles were knocked out of the tournament in the group stages.
Critics even stormed the Instagram page of the footballer’s wife, Sonia, and called her names over Ighalo’s below-par perfomance in the Nigeria-Argentina match which sealed the Eagles fate at the World Cup.
Ighalo’s decision to lock the section hit some Manchester United fans hard after he moved to Old Trafford and had a stellar performance in his early days at the club.
Media personality Ebuka Obi-Uchendu was among those who pleaded with him to change his mind.
Earlier in the year, Ighalo, 31, opened up on locking comments during a live session with Big Brother Naija star and fitness instructor Kemen Ekerete.
“I don’t need your comments to take me to the next level in life or change who I am or who I’m going to be,” he said.
The striker further said he would unlock it when he is ready and not because many people beseeched him to do so.
The Manchester United forward, however, opened the comment section with a Globacom-sponsored post on December 13.
Ighalo hung his international boots in 2019 after the Africa Cup of Nations in Egypt. He scored the winning goal against Tunisia which earned Nigeria bronze medal.
Skipper Mikel Obi also retired from the national team after the tournament.
