Former Nigeria international, Odion Ighalo, has announced the death of his sister.
Ighalo lost his sister on Thursday but announced her death on social media on Friday.
The 30-year-old did not reveal the cause of her death.
“R.I.P sister 💔12-12-19 👼🙏🏾,” he said on Twitter.
Ighalo, who plays for Shanghai Greenland Shenhua in China, retired from the national team after his heroics at the 2019 AFCON in Egypt where he emerged highest goalscorer with five goals.
The former Watford player has, however, not closed the door on a return to the Super Eagles.
In a recent chat with Brila FM, Ighalo said he had received calls from fans to retract his decision to quit the national team.
According to him, the decision whether or not to come back from retirement is one he may have to reconsider in future.
“The reality is I am retired, and it stays that way for now,” he said.
“But we don’t know what the future holds and it is true that there have been calls for me to come back; we’ll see how it goes.”
