Veteran actor Kanayo O. Kanayo has cautioned against believing all sex for roles claims in the movie industry.
In an Instagram post on Wednesday, the actor said that most of the claims are false.
The 59-year-old, however, stated that many up-and-coming actresses do not work hard and professionally act out their script as expected; a situation he described as shameful.
Sharing a video from a movie set, the wrote, “When you hear of sex for roles in Nollywood, please do not believe all you are told. Many of the girls are not working hard to live up to the roles they are cast for. Quite a shame.”
Actresses like Ini Edo, Halima Abubakar, Chioma Ifemeludike and Bukunmi Oluwasina had in the past spoken about the reality of sex for roles in Nollywood.
Sharing her thoughts in an Instagram post on September 2021, Bukunmi wrote.
“One day, we are also going to have a conversation about some people who came into the industry with aim of having the opportunity to meet, be friends with or date, sleep with or even marry a particular celebrity. Some would get lucky, some would not. And some would end up becoming a bone in the neck of the celebrity just cos they have done too much for them to let go.
“Always appearing their scandal list and later leading to creating problems for their marriage. I just think half of the problems of this world would be solved if we as individuals know how to control ourselves. Meanwhile, the say I run into some upcoming these days dressed like upcoming prostitutes I ask myself if it’s acting opportunity they are looking for or pre*k.”
The actress made the post shortly after her colleague Odunlade Adeoka denied the sex for roles allegation made against him by an Instagram blogger.
