Inspector-general of police Usman Baba has ordered the Kogi police commissioner to immediately investigate an incident involving policemen and some commuters in Kogi as seen in a video which has gone viral on social media.
In the video, a voice in the background says a group of policemen stopped a commercial bus to carry out a search.
During the search, the male voice says, the policemen found a laptop on a man who said he was a student.
The voice further says the policemen were unconvinced, subsequently demanding N25, 000 bribe from the student. The policemen allegedly took the student to a point-of-sale operator where they made the student withdraw N25, 000 and handed it over to them.
The voice adds that one of the policemen slapped a passenger in the bus who frowned at the incident.
In a statement issued on Sunday by Force spokesman Frank Mba, the IGP assured that justice would be done.
“The IGP calls for calm, noting that at the end of the investigations, justice will be done to the victim of the incident and police personnel found guilty, brought to book,” the statement read.
