Nigeria youngster, Kelechi Iheanacho, has signed a two-year contract extension with Manchester City that will keep him at the club until at least June 2021.
The player made a significant impact after breaking into the City first team last season as he scored 14 goals in 35 games in all competitions, and he has remained involved with the squad following the appointment of Pep Guardiola as manager.
Guardiola, according to the club’s official website, said: “Kelechi is a natural goalscorer. I knew about him before, but I’ve been really impressed with him since I arrived.
“I like his personality, his attitude, his ability – we hope to help him reach the highest level and to realise his full potential.”
With Wilfried Bony out of favour, Iheanacho, who possesses pace and excellent technical ability, is currently City’s second-choice centre forward behind Sergio Aguero and should have a prominent part to play for the club this season as they compete on four fronts.
Iheanacho, who is now a full Nigeria international, joined City in January 2014 and featured prominently for the club at youth level during the 2014/15 campaign before making the step up to the senior squad last campaign.
