Nigeria trio, Kelechi Iheanacho, John Mikel Obi and Victor Moses have all been eliminated from the English Football League (EFL) Cup with their respective clubs on Wednesday.
Iheanacho was in action from start to finish for Manchester City but could do little to savour a win for Pep Guardiola’s side against Manchester United.
Juan Mata’s second half strike was all the Red Devils needed to avenge their earlier lost against their neighbours to advance to the quarter-final.
It was however a different story for Mikel and Moses who weren’t dressed by Chelsea in the 2-1 defeat at West Ham.
Moses, 25, was understandably handed a well deserved rest after cementing his place with the first team while his compatriot’s woes under Antonio Conte continues as he is yet to feature this season.
Edimilson Fernandes and Cheikhou Kouyate struck for the Hammers while Gary Cahill grabbed a late consolation for the visitors.
What this means is that only one Nigerian is left in this season’s edition of the EFL Cup – which is Arsenal’s Alex Iwobi.
The 20-year-old played all 90 minutes as the Gunners beat Reading 2-0 on Tuesday.
He now faces a tricky tie against Southampton in the last eight while United battles West Ham.
The other two games will see Liverpool take on Leeds United with Hull City testing their might against Newcastle.
