It was a night of contrasting fortunes for Super Eagles stars, Kelechi Iheanacho and Alex Iwobi, as Manchester City beat Arsenal 2-1 on Sunday, with Leroy Sane and Raheem Sterling scoring to engineer a comeback victory for the hosts.
Theo Walcott scored early on to put the Gunners ahead, but they ended up losing to the Citizens – much as they were defeated after going ahead against Everton in mid-week.
Iheanacho replaced man of the match, Kevin De Bruyne in the 84th minute while Iwobi who was largely anonymous in the match exited the pitch for Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain in 65.
The win bolstered City’s title ambitions, although they are still seven points behind leaders, Chelsea, and completed a damaging double for Arsenal as they now lie nine points behind Antonio Conte’s side.
Pep Guardiola’s side are now second on the table ahead of Liverpool’s derby clash against Everton on Monday while Arsene Wenger’s men slipped to fourth.
The next round of fixtures will see Arsenal at home to West Brom and City at Hull.
Both matches will be played on Boxing Day.
