Imo State Governor, Emeka Ihedioha, has begun the demolition of Akachi tower built by immediate past governor, Rochas Okorocha.
This comes barely 24 hours after his inauguration as governor of the state.
Akachi tower was built on a reclaimed dumpsite that was abandoned by previous administration.
Soldiers were seen supervising the demolition on Thursday.
They also barred journalists from covering the exercise.
Vice-President Yemi Osinbajo had commissioned the Akachi monument less than a week ago when he visited the state.
The monument, a massive tower with the symbol of a hand on the Zenith, representing the hand of God, was reserved for religious purposes.
It is suggested that Ihedioha could demolish other monuments in Owerri, especially the famous statues.
