After nearly two years absence, Nigeria forward, Ikechukwu Uche, has expressed his desire to once again become part of the current Super Eagles team if considered.
Uche, 32, with 19 goals in 47 games is Nigeria’s fourth all-time topscorer behind Rashidi Yekini, Segun Odegbami and Yakubu Aiyegbeni.
The striker who currently plays for Mexican side, Tigres UANL, says he is not ready to quit international football any time soon and is willing to bring his wealth of experience to the team.
“As long as I remain active, I would like to play for my country,” Uche told FCnaija.
“For whoever is charge of the national team, if they need me – I’ll always make myself available but sometimes it is good to give the young ones a chance too but it depends on whoever is in charge.”
Despite spending majority of his club career in Spain, Uche couldn’t ignore a return to the La Liga in January when Malaga came knocking with a six-month loan deal.
But after starting just one game throughout that duration, a return to his parent Mexican club was eminent.
The striker is Nigeria’s best export to the Spanish topflight with 42 goals in 194 appearances in nine years.
He also won titles at Recreativo and last season with Tigres but insists none can compare to winning the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations in South Africa.
“The best moment of my career so far is winning the African Nations Cup with Nigeria,” the ex-Villarreal man added.
“It never really kicks in until your playing career is over. That’s when you look back and the memory brings you joy.”
