Ikeja Electric has postponed its International Women’s Day event after its CEO, Folake Soetan, and other staff members were attacked by personnel of the Nigerian Air Force (NAF).
The incident occurred on Thursday when NAF officers stormed the headquarters of Ikeja Electricity Distribution Company following the disconnection of electricity supply to the force’s logistics base.
According to reports, the officers, angered by the power cut, demanded immediate reconnection despite allegations of outstanding bills and electricity theft.
Witnesses say the situation quickly escalated, with the personnel breaking down doors in search of Soetan.
The CEO was allegedly assaulted and forced into the trunk of a vehicle within the premises before the situation was brought under control.
Reacting to the development, one of the scheduled speakers for the postponed event, Morenike Molehin, expressed disappointment over the attack.
“I was scheduled to speak at Ikeja Electric today in honour of International Women’s Day, but the event was postponed due to the unfortunate incident that happened at their office yesterday, and it just saddens my heart how lawless some people can be,” she wrote on Instagram.
“My heart goes out to the people of @ikejaelectric and their beautiful CEO, who I look up to @folakesoetan. You are unstoppable love you, Ma.”
The International Women’s Day Conference was set to hold at Bon Hotel, Ikeja, on Friday with the theme Accelerate Action.
Other speakers lined up for the event included Ibukun Awosika, Bolanle Olowu, Luke Ofojebe and Olufunke Jones.
