A total of 44 bodies have now been recovered from the 21-storey building that collapsed on Gerrard Road, in the Ikoyi area of Lagos State on November 1.
As of Saturday evening, Lagos state Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu said 42 bodies had been from the rubble.
However, a source told PUNCH on Sunday that two more bodies were recovered which increased the death toll to 44.
The source said one of the bodies was recovered around 8 pm on Saturday, while the other body was recovered around midnight.
The newspaper also learnt that the rescue responders are nearing the end of the operation.
“The recovery operation is still ongoing but should end by Monday morning. The work is about two per cent to completion,” the source added.
Among those found dead in the rubble is the developer of the building Femi Osibona and his friend, a United States-based Nigerian businessman, Wale Bob-Oseni.
Other deceased persons included a member of the National Youth Service Corps, identified as Oyindamola; an aluminium fabricator, Kenneth Otu; an engineer and pastor with the Redeemed Christian Church of God, Living Water Parish, Ibafo, Ogun State, Ola Ogunfunwa, among others.
